Kolkata, 20 July (H.S.): Former West Bengal minister and Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra Monday cautioned former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her proposed July 21 programme, claiming that the venue falls within the Assembly constituency of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and expressing apprehension that any disturbance could even lead to firing.

Speaking during a live session on social media, Mitra also launched a direct attack on Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, saying he could not be intimidated or threatened.

Addressing Abhishek Banerjee, Mitra said, There is no point trying to intimidate me. You may be able to threaten others, but not me. He further claimed that he had recently been targeted in a firing incident but was not afraid for his life.

Mitra also asserted that comments made by either Mamata Banerjee or Abhishek Banerjee no longer affected him. However, he urged Mamata Banerjee to remain careful during the July 21 programme.

The remarks come days after Mitra announced his resignation from all organisational posts in the Trinamool Congress while visiting the chamber of Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata Bandyopadhyay in the Assembly. He had also revealed that he sent a WhatsApp message to Mamata Banerjee saying sorry before deciding to part ways with the party.

Expressing disappointment, Mitra said he never received the recognition he deserved within the party and alleged that this had deeply hurt him. His latest comments indicate a further escalation of his public criticism of the Trinamool Congress leadership.
