Kanpur, 20 July (HS): “IIT Kanpur to promote research and
innovation in the field of green hydrogen. This Centre of Excellence will play
an important role,” stated IIT Kanpur Director Prof. Manindra Agrawal on
Monday. He explained that under the Uttar Pradesh Green Hydrogen Policy 2024, the
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur will establish a Center of
Excellence in Green Hydrogen Innovation and Integrated Green Hydrogen Ecosystem
(ECOGEN). Following approval by an authorized committee of the Uttar Pradesh
government, the proposal has also been approved by the Uttar Pradesh New and
Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA).
Prof. Manindra Aggarwal stated that the Center of Excellence
aims to promote research, innovation, and technology development across the
entire green hydrogen value chain. It will encourage multidisciplinary
research, from green hydrogen production to storage, transportation,
utilization, and system integration. The Center will also play a key role in
achieving the state's net-zero pollution target.
This project will focus on reducing the cost of green
hydrogen production, developing clean and sustainable energy solutions, and
collaborating with industry to develop new technologies. This is expected to
promote innovation in the energy sector and accelerate the use of green energy
in the country.
This Center of Excellence will be led by Professor Prabodh
Bajpai of the Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering at IIT Kanpur as the
Principal Investigator. All the investigators involved in the project have extensive
experience in multidisciplinary research and development and have established
collaborations with various leading industrial institutions. The Institute
believes that this partnership will provide a new direction to research and
development related to green hydrogen technology and further strengthen Uttar
Pradesh's role in the field of clean energy.
