Birbhum, 20 July (H.S.): A criminal case has been registered against Birbhum Trinamool Congress district president Anubrata Mondal, along with Jibankrishna Saha and four others, over allegations of collecting money from job aspirants on the promise of securing primary school teaching jobs.

The case was registered at Suri Police Station following the direction of a local court. According to the police, an investigation has begun and the accused have been booked under two non-bailable sections.

The complainant, Kalyan Ghosh on Monday alleged that in 2017 the accused collected large sums of money from him and several others, promising appointments as primary school teachers. According to the complaint, some candidates paid ₹6 lakh, others ₹3 lakh or ₹2 lakh, but none received a job or a refund.

The complainant further alleged that appointment letters were issued, but they did not mention the place of posting. Later, the accused allegedly demanded more money to finalise the appointments, preventing the candidates from joining their jobs.

Advocate Somnath Mukhopadhyay, representing the complainant, said repeated complaints had been made to the police since 2017, but no action was taken because the accused were influential. He said the complainant subsequently approached the Suri court, which directed the police to register the case.

The complaint also names former Birbhum District Primary School Council chairman Raja Ghosh among the accused.

The police said the matter is under investigation. Anubrata Mondal has not yet reacted publicly to the allegations.
