Guwahati, 20 July (HS): The Assam BJP on Monday said its workers are actively assisting the civil administration in rescue and relief operations across flood-hit districts, while State BJP President Dilip Saikia called on party cadres to remain vigilant and fully mobilised during the ongoing flood crisis.
In a press statement, Assam BJP spokesperson Ranjib Kumar Sarmah said the state government has launched an intensive response in the worst-affected districts of Jorhat, Sivasagar and Charaideo, with rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures being carried out on a war footing. He added that BJP workers have joined government agencies in strengthening vulnerable embankments along the Jaji, Dikhow, Disang and Bhogdoi rivers by helping with sandbagging and other emergency measures.
The party said Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is personally monitoring the flood situation and has directed all departments to ensure uninterrupted rescue and relief operations. Agencies including the Water Resources Department, Disaster Management Department, district administrations, NDRF, SDRF, Assam Police, Fire and Emergency Services and the Indian Air Force are working in coordination to assist affected residents.
According to the statement, four Cabinet Ministers—Ajanta Neog, Bimal Bora, Sushanta Borgohain and Keshab Mahanta—were deputed to the affected districts on the night of July 19 to oversee rescue, relief and rehabilitation work. The ministers have been monitoring the ground situation and supervising the distribution of relief materials.
The BJP also stated that, under the direction of State President Dilip Saikia, party workers are assisting district administrations in relief distribution and evacuation efforts. Despite attending the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, Saikia has remained in regular contact with ministers and district officials to review rescue and relief operations.
The statement further claimed that over 100 BJYM workers have set up round-the-clock relief camps in the flood-hit Chantak and Garmur areas of Nazira in Sivasagar district, while BJP workers in Jorhat and Charaideo are also engaged in relief and humanitarian assistance in coordination with the administration.-----------
