Kolkata, 02 July (H.S.) : Fresh allegations of evidence tampering have emerged in the investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, with the victim's family accusing three officials of the West Bengal State Forensic Science Laboratory of manipulating crucial forensic evidence.

According to sources, the victim's family has approached the court after receiving a letter from a former official of the state forensic department. The letter reportedly alleges that the victim's viscera samples were destroyed and claims that three forensic officials were involved in the alleged destruction of evidence.

The family now intends to submit the letter before the court as a key piece of evidence and is preparing to seek a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the new allegations to ensure an impartial investigation.

The development comes against the backdrop of the family's earlier objections to the CBI investigation. During previous hearings, the court had directed the CBI to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a fresh probe into certain aspects of the case. However, the Calcutta High Court has since expressed dissatisfaction with the progress made by the SIT.

During a hearing on June 25, the High Court observed that its directions issued on May 21 regarding the constitution of the SIT had not been implemented in the expected manner and that the investigation had not progressed as directed.

The emergence of the former forensic official's letter has added a new dimension to the high-profile case. If the allegations contained in the letter are substantiated, they could significantly impact the course of the investigation.

However, the allegations made in the letter have not yet been independently verified, and no official confirmation has been issued by the concerned authorities. The matter is now expected to come under judicial scrutiny as the victim's family pursues further legal action.
