Guwahati, 02 July (HS): A fake currency racket allegedly involving counterfeit notes worth nearly ₹100 crore is reportedly active in Guwahati, with the illegal network said to be operating from the city through a well-organised distribution chain.
According to the allegations, the counterfeit notes are brought to Guwahati from Bongalmora in Lakhimpur district before being circulated across different parts of the city.
The racket is allegedly being led by Sahil, alias Ismail Ali, along with his wife, Sumi. The duo is accused of coordinating the transportation and distribution of fake currency.
Reports further claim that the accused have been operating from the ISBT area at Betkuchi/Kotahbari in Guwahati, using the location as a base to expand the circulation of counterfeit notes. However, no official confirmation from the police regarding these allegations was available at the time of filing this report.----------
