Chennai, 19 July (H.S.):Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has congratulated the State's film fraternity after Tamil cinema secured 10 honours at the 72nd National Film Awards, describing the achievement as a landmark moment that reflects the industry's artistic brilliance and technical excellence.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Chief Minister said the awards reaffirm Tamil cinema's position as one of the country's leading film industries. He noted that the recognition earned by actors, directors, musicians and technicians was a testament to their creativity, dedication and commitment to producing quality cinema.

The 72nd National Film Awards, announced in New Delhi on Saturday, honoured films released in 2024. Tamil films figured prominently across several major categories, winning accolades for direction, acting, editing, background music, stunt choreography, sound design and audiography, besides taking home the award for Best Tamil Feature Film.

Vijay extended special congratulations to actor-director Dhanush, whose directorial venture Raayan won the award for Best Tamil Feature Film. He also praised Dhanush for receiving a Special Mention for his performance in Captain Miller, calling it another significant achievement in the actor's career.

The Chief Minister also applauded the team behind Amaran, one of the biggest winners from Tamil Nadu this year. Director Rajkumar Periasamy was named Best Director, R. Kalaivanan won the award for Best Editing and G. V. Prakash Kumar received the National Award for Best Background Music.

He also congratulated the makers of Maharaja, where Anal Arasu was honoured with the award for Best Stunt Choreography and Sachana Namidass won Best Supporting Actress. Other winners from the State included Suren G., who received a Special Mention in Audiography for Meiyazhagan, and T. S. Hariharasudhan, who won the National Award for Best Sound Design for the short film Blue.

Vijay said the honours would encourage emerging filmmakers and technicians to strive for greater excellence and expressed confidence that Tamil cinema would continue to enhance its reputation on both national and international platforms.
