Lucknow, 19 July (HS): Addressing a symposium, Dr. Krishna

Gopal, Joint General Secretary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), stated

that education in India was once completely free. Students received free food,

clothing, medicine, and books at Gurukuls. The British introduced fees for

education. He added that the current nature of education is shifting in a

different direction. Major highways and airports are being built across the

country, but 80 percent of the population is unable to access higher education.

This creates discontent within society.

He was addressing a program organized on Sunday at the

Malaviya Auditorium of Lucknow University to mark the inauguration of the new

session of the Mahamana Shikshan Sansthan. Dr. Krishna Gopal said that India

had considerable economic and material progress. India taught the world

grammar, alphabets, decimals, mathematics, trigonometry, constellation

calculations, and how to wear clothes. India was the first country in the world

to build a ship.

The co-general secretary said that every village in India

had schools. Universities like Nalanda, Takshashila, and Vikramshila were

located in India, where students from many countries came to study. The Islamic

invasion destroyed our institutions. When the British arrived, they banned

education in India. India quickly became an illiterate nation.

The chief guest of

the program, IIT Lucknow Director Professor Arun Mohan Sheri, said that

Mahamana's educational institution is working to transform society and provide

direction. Expressing concern over the increasing incidence of stress and

suicide in higher education institutions, he said that some changes are needed

in higher education institutions.

Presiding over the

program, former Lucknow University Vice Chancellor Durg Singh Chauhan said that

a mother is the mother of manners. A son learns from his parents. He said that

the solution to the country's problems lies in education. India will rise only

through ancient values.

Dr. Anima Jamwal said

that Mahamana Malaviya Educational Institute is running with the inspiration of

two great men, Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya and Bhaurao Deoras.On this

occasion, All India Pracharak Chief of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Swant

Ranjan, Vice Chancellor of Lucknow University Prof. JP Saini, State Pracharak

Kaushal, former Area Pracharak Shivnarayan, coordinator of cow protection

activity of the area, State Chief of Social Harmony Rajendra, Department

Pracharak Anil, Director of Cancer Institute Prof. MLB Bhatt, Dr. Naveen Jamwal

and Dr. Santosh Shukla were prominently present.
