Hooghly, 19 July (H.S.): A man was killed in a tragic accident while guiding a car owner during a parking exercise in the Sripally area of Chandannagar, Hooghly district, on Saturday evening. The deceased, Buddhadeb Sarkar, was fatally struck by the vehicle while instructing its owner on how to park it. The police have detained the driver, Saibal Saha, and launched an investigation.

According to local sources, Buddhadeb Sarkar used to drive the car of retired government employee Saibal Saha. He had already trained Saha in driving and was now helping him master parking techniques.

After finishing work on Saturday evening, the two arrived at the parking garage of the Superstitch Plaza residential complex. Saha was behind the wheel while Buddhadeb stood outside, guiding him into the parking space. During the manoeuvre, the car suddenly lurched forward and hit Buddhadeb, leaving him critically injured.

Local residents rushed him to Chandannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital in a battery-operated rickshaw, where doctors declared him dead.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the locality. Police have taken Saibal Saha into custody, seized the vehicle and initiated an investigation.

A resident of the housing complex said Saha had recently acquired a garage in the building to park his car. At around 7 p.m., while he was attempting to park the vehicle under Buddhadeb's guidance, the car suddenly rammed into him.

Local traders said Buddhadeb had taught Saha how to drive and was only supervising his parking practice when the fatal accident occurred. Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the incident.
