New Delhi, 16 July (H.S.): Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, will undertake an official visit to India from July 17 to 20. He will visit India at the invitation of Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, accompanied by his wife, Mariam Mwinyi, along with a high-level delegation comprising ministers and senior government officials.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, President Mwinyi will arrive in Chennai on Friday morning, where he will attend the 63rd Convocation Ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras as the Chief Guest. The visit is particularly significant as it coincides with the completion of two years since the establishment of the IIT Madras Zanzibar Campus. President Mwinyi will travel from Chennai to New Delhi on Saturday night.

President Mwinyi is scheduled to have a busy itinerary on Sunday. He will begin the day by meeting External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. He will subsequently meet Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan to review various aspects of India–Tanzania relations and discuss measures to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

Later on Sunday afternoon, President Mwinyi will pay floral tributes at Rajghat, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi. As per the official schedule, he will conclude his India visit and depart for Zanzibar in the early hours of July 20.

India and Tanzania are important partners in the Global South and have shared long-standing, close, and friendly relations across a wide range of sectors. President Mwinyi's visit is expected to further deepen bilateral ties and provide fresh momentum to cooperation in trade, education, capacity building, and several other areas.

Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region of the East African nation of Tanzania.
