
New Delhi, 15 July (H.S.): Delhi Police have arrested two law students from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly creating a disturbance during proceedings in the Supreme Court of India. According to the police, one of the students interrupted the court hearing by using abusive language, throwing papers and pamphlets inside the courtroom, and allegedly pushing a security personnel when restrained.
The Tilak Marg Police Station in New Delhi registered a case and arrested both accused. Following a court order granting two days of police remand, investigators are conducting a detailed probe into the entire incident.
According to the police, the incident took place on July 10 in Court No. 13 of the Supreme Court during the hearing of Special Leave Petition (SLP) No. 31367/2026. In the matter, Prabal Pratap Singh (24) appeared before the court as the petitioner in person. He is a third-year LL.B. student at Lucknow University. He was accompanied by Chander Bhan (23), a second-year LL.B. student at the same university. The two are residents of Etawah and Raebareli, respectively.
The investigation revealed that during the hearing, Prabal Pratap Singh suddenly began using abusive and unparliamentary language inside the courtroom. He then allegedly threw papers and pamphlets, briefly disrupting the proceedings. When Supreme Court security personnel intervened to restore order, he allegedly pushed one of the security officials. Following a complaint by the security staff, the Tilak Marg Police registered an FIR under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police said that following observations made by the Supreme Court, both accused were medically examined at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS). The medical reports found that neither of them required any immediate psychiatric treatment.
