
New Delhi, 15 July (H.S.): The Election Commission of India has revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Punjab, Karnataka and Delhi. Accepting requests from the respective Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs), the Commission has approved changes to the timelines and communicated the revised schedule through official correspondence.
Under the revised schedule, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in Delhi and Karnataka will now be allowed to carry out door-to-door distribution and collection of electoral forms until August 8. Earlier, this exercise was scheduled to conclude on June 30. The reclassification of polling stations in both states must also be completed by August 8.
The draft electoral rolls for Delhi and Karnataka will be published on August 17. Claims and objections can be submitted until September 16, while all such claims and objections are to be disposed of by October 15. The final electoral rolls will be published on October 19.
In Punjab, Booth Level Officers will continue their door-to-door exercise until August 3. The reclassification of polling stations will also be completed by the same date. The draft electoral roll will be published on August 13, and claims and objections may be filed until September 12. The disposal of all claims and objections has been scheduled for completion by October 8, following which the final electoral roll will be published on October 12.
