New Delhi, 15 July (H.S.): The Congress on Wednesday accused the Central Government of failing in its economic policies and pushing the country into a severe economic crisis due to persistently rising inflation. The party alleged that while all key indicators of the economy are flashing a 'red alert,' the government is busy diverting public attention and concealing critical economic data.
Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh, citing a newspaper article in a post on X, said that wholesale inflation had surged to 9.87 percent, the highest level in 44 months. He also claimed that fuel and electricity prices had risen by 27.4 percent, while the area under crop sowing had fallen to its lowest level in three years. He said the common people were reeling under inflation and unemployment, while farmers were suffering due to what he described as the government's flawed policies and adverse weather conditions.
Ramesh alleged that rising inflation had significantly increased industrial production costs and accused the government of attempting to suppress alarming economic data instead of taking steps to control inflation. He said the latest wholesale inflation figures reflected the Modi government's flawed economic policies and policy failures.
He further questioned the government's priorities at a time when every section of society was under severe distress. Ramesh said that after completing 12 years in office, the Central Government must answer for what he described as its economic failures.
