Delhi/United Nations, July 14 (HS): External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has said India will ensure that issues such as a free, open and rule-based maritime order, the safety of seafarers and countering terror financing receive the attention they deserve at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Speaking at the launch of India's campaign for a non-permanent seat on the UNSC for the 2028-29 term at the UN headquarters, Jaishankar outlined New Delhi's priorities for its candidature.
He said India's approach to the United Nations is rooted in SHANTI — Securing Holistic Advancement through Norms, Trust and Integrity.
Jaishankar said India's priorities include being a strong voice for the Global South, advancing reformed multilateralism, promoting future-ready peacekeeping, addressing threats arising from the misuse of artificial intelligence, securing maritime commons and combating terror financing.
He noted that terrorism continues to be one of the world's most pressing challenges and stressed the need for greater international efforts to dismantle terrorist financing networks.
The External Affairs Minister said India remains committed to strengthening multilateral cooperation and contributing constructively to global peace, security and sustainable development through the United Nations.
