New Delhi, July 14 (HS): Actor Omi Vaidya, best known for portraying Chatur Ramalingam in the film 3 Idiots, has expressed support for educator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is on an indefinite hunger strike at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.
In a video message shared on social media, Vaidya appealed to the public to pay attention to Wangchuk's deteriorating health and the issues being raised through his protest.
Introducing himself as Chatur from 3 Idiots, Vaidya said, I don't want Phunsukh Wangdu to die, referring to Aamir Khan's character in the film, which was loosely inspired by Wangchuk.
Recalling his meeting with Wangchuk, Vaidya described him as a humble and inspiring individual who has made significant contributions as an engineer, innovator and educator. He urged people to learn more about Wangchuk's work and the concerns he has raised.
Expressing concern over Wangchuk's health, the actor said the activist's blood sugar levels had dropped during the prolonged fast and appealed to the public to take note of the situation.
Vaidya also highlighted issues related to education, Ladakh's autonomy and environmental protection, urging people to understand the concerns being raised irrespective of their personal views.
The appeal comes amid growing concern over Wangchuk's health during his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar.
