
New Delhi, 12 July (H.S.): India has strongly condemned the Iranian attack on the Cyprus-flagged commercial container vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman, expressing deep concern over the repeated attacks on commercial shipping and urging immediate de-escalation and a diplomatic resolution to restore safe navigation in the region.
Notably, 11 Indian nationals were on board the Cyprus-flagged vessel. Following the attack, 10 Indian citizens were rescued, while one Indian national remains missing.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, We strongly condemn the attack this morning on the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman. Of the 11 Indian nationals on board the vessel, 10 have been rescued, while one Indian national remains missing.
The ministry said that the Embassy of India in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and is actively coordinating with the Omani authorities involved in the ongoing search and rescue operation. It also expressed gratitude to the Omani authorities for their cooperation and assistance.
The MEA further stated, The continued attacks on commercial vessels in the region are a matter of serious concern. We reiterate our call for immediate de-escalation and for ongoing diplomatic efforts to be brought to a successful conclusion in order to restore peace and stability in the region.
The ministry emphasized that attacks on commercial vessels and civilian infrastructure must cease immediately. It also called for the prompt restoration of unhindered navigation and international commerce through the region's international waterways, in accordance with international law.
