South Salmara (Assam), 11 July (HS): In a major anti-drug operation, South Salmara Police seized a large quantity of suspected narcotic tablets and cough syrup from a passenger boat in South Salmara-Mankachar district and arrested one alleged drug trafficker.

According to police, the operation was launched on the basis of specific intelligence. During the search of the passenger boat, officers recovered a substantial quantity of suspected banned narcotic tablets and cough syrup. The accused, identified as Rajiv Miya, was taken into custody at the scene.

The seized contraband has been confiscated and a case has been registered under the relevant provisions of law. Police said the accused is being interrogated to ascertain the source of the consignment, its intended destination and the involvement of other members of the smuggling network.

Officials added that the investigation is underway and efforts are being made to identify and apprehend others connected to the illegal drug trade.

The seizure is part of the Assam Police's ongoing statewide campaign to curb drug trafficking and dismantle narcotics networks across the state.-----------
