Kochi , 10 July (H.S) :BJP leader and Chathannoor MLA B.B. Gopakumar has alleged that he received a death threat from an unidentified caller, prompting the Kerala Police to register a case and launch an investigation.

According to the complaint filed by the legislator, the incident occurred at around 4.30 p.m. on Thursday when an unknown person contacted him over the phone. The caller initially sought the MLA's assistance in securing a job. Gopakumar reportedly informed the caller that he had no means of arranging employment, following which the call was abruptly disconnected.

However, the caller contacted the MLA again shortly afterwards and this time asked for the mobile phone number of the Kazhakkoottam MLA. Gopakumar declined to share the contact details, stating that he could not disclose another legislator's personal phone number.

The MLA alleged that the caller then became abusive, hurled obscene remarks and threatened to kill him before ending the call.

Following the incident, Gopakumar lodged a formal complaint with the Kollam City Police Commissioner, seeking immediate action against the unidentified individual.

Based on the complaint, Chathannoor Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) and initiated a detailed investigation to trace the caller and establish the motive behind the threat.

Police are examining the call records and other technical evidence to identify the person responsible. Investigators are also looking into whether the threat was an isolated act by an individual or if the caller had links to any organisation or group.

Officials said all possible angles are being explored as part of the investigation. Security agencies are expected to assess the nature and credibility of the threat while efforts continue to identify and apprehend the accused.

No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is continuing.
