(HS): Sachin Ahir, who defected from UBT Sena on Tuesday was elected Deputy
Chairman of Legislative Council on Wednesday. He was elected unopposed. Ahir
resigned from all the positions he held in UBT Sena on Tuesday morning and filed
nomination papers for the election of Deputy Chairman as Mahayuti candidate.
UBT nominee
Jagannath Abhyankar had filed nomination papers, but withdrew to elect Ahir without
opposition. Chandrakant Patil appealed to Abhyankar to withdraw his nomination
to elect Deputy Chairman without any opposition as a tradition, to which he
agreed.

Fadnavis, and outgoing Deputy Deputy Chairperson Dr Neelam Gorhe congratulated Ahir.
Sachin Ahir was
elected MLS before fraction in Shiv Sena and would not attract disqualification
as he is still Shiv Sena now led by Eknath Shinde faction, which is recognised
as real Shiv Sena.
