Washington, 08 June (H.S.):

U.S. President Donald Trump has signalled growing confidence in Washington's diplomatic efforts with Iran, stating that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would ultimately have to accept any agreement reached between the United States and Tehran aimed at preventing further conflict in the Middle East.

Speaking in interviews published on Sunday, Trump asserted that he remains firmly in control of U.S. policy toward the region and indicated that Israel should avoid actions that could jeopardize ongoing negotiations. His remarks came amid renewed tensions after Iran launched a barrage of missiles at Israel, marking the most serious violation of the ceasefire that had largely held since April.

Trump suggested that he had urged Netanyahu to refrain from retaliatory military action and instead allow diplomatic efforts to continue. According to reports citing U.S. officials, the American president believes negotiations are approaching a critical stage and that additional military escalation could undermine prospects for a breakthrough.

The comments highlighted a rare public divergence between Washington and Jerusalem at a time when regional stability remains fragile. While Israeli military officials have maintained a strong stance against Iranian threats, Trump indicated that he favours giving diplomacy additional time to succeed.

Despite the latest exchange of hostilities, Trump said the missile attacks would not alter his approach toward talks with Tehran. He maintained that the negotiations should be judged on their own merits and argued that recent developments would neither accelerate nor derail the process.

At the same time, the president acknowledged uncertainty about the outcome of the discussions. While expressing hope that an agreement could still be achieved, he stopped short of guaranteeing success and said the coming weeks would determine whether diplomacy can deliver a lasting solution.

Trump also outlined the options available to Washington should negotiations collapse. He said the United States could either intensify economic pressure through sanctions and restrictions or consider further military measures against Iranian targets if necessary.

The latest developments follow reports of a tense telephone conversation between Trump and Netanyahu last week. According to accounts from officials familiar with the discussion, the two leaders exchanged sharp views over Israel's military posture and the broader direction of the regional conflict. Trump later confirmed that the conversation had taken place, though he did not challenge descriptions portraying it as unusually heated.

Sunday's remarks underscore the administration's effort to balance support for Israel with a renewed push for diplomacy with Iran. As missile exchanges and security concerns continue to unsettle the region, the success or failure of the negotiations is likely to play a significant role in shaping Middle East stability in the months ahead.

The comments were made on Sunday, June 7, amid heightened tensions following Iran's missile strikes and ongoing diplomatic contacts between Washington, Tehran and regional allies.
