
New Delhi, June 5 (HS): India’s domestic equity markets traded in positive territory during early trading on Friday despite witnessing considerable volatility. Both benchmark indices opened with gains and continued to remain in the green, even as buyers and sellers engaged in a tug-of-war for market dominance immediately after the opening bell. By 10:00 a.m., the Sensex was up 0.20 per cent, while the Nifty had gained 0.14 per cent.
Among the blue-chip stocks, HDFC Life, Adani Enterprises, Bajaj Finance, SBI Life Insurance, and Tech Mahindra emerged as the top gainers, rising between 2.54 per cent and 1.18 per cent during early trade. On the other hand, Wipro, Trent Limited, Tata Steel, Hindalco Industries, and Coal India were among the major laggards, declining between 3.97 per cent and 0.56 per cent.
By 10:00 a.m., active trading was recorded in 2,711 stocks across the market. Of these, 1,856 stocks were trading in positive territory, while 855 stocks were trading lower. Among the 30 constituents of the Sensex, 20 stocks were advancing, supported by buying interest, whereas 10 stocks remained under selling pressure. Similarly, within the Nifty 50 index, 29 stocks were trading higher and 21 stocks were trading in the red.
The BSE Sensex opened 269.93 points higher at 74,629.94. Soon after the market opened, fluctuations emerged as buyers and sellers attempted to gain the upper hand. Supported by fresh buying, the index climbed to an intraday high of 74,717.57. However, selling pressure later dragged it down to an intraday low of 74,479.87. Amid continued buying and selling activity, the Sensex was trading at 74,510.54 at 10:00 a.m., up 150.53 points from the previous close.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty opened 62.40 points higher at 23,478.95. Volatility remained evident throughout the early session as market participants actively traded positions. Buying support helped the index rise to an intraday high of 23,516.35, while selling pressure briefly pushed it down to 23,439.15. Despite these fluctuations, the Nifty consistently remained in positive territory. At 10:00 a.m., the benchmark index was trading at 23,449.10, up 32.55 points.
In the previous trading session on Thursday, the Sensex had closed marginally higher by 13.84 points, or 0.02 per cent, at 74,360.01. The Nifty had also ended the day with modest gains of 10.95 points, or 0.05 per cent, closing at 23,416.55.
