New Delhi, June 5 (HS): Tamil Nadu leader and former IPS officer K. Annamalai has severed all ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His resignation has been accepted by the party's national president, Nitin Nabin. The development was confirmed through a statement issued on Friday by BJP General Secretary Arun Singh.

According to the statement, Nitin Nabin has accepted Annamalai’s resignation from the party’s primary membership. Annamalai is expected to make a major announcement later today. On Thursday, he posted on X that he would “speak his heart” at 12 noon on Friday. Political observers believe he may choose a separate political path and could potentially announce the formation of a new party.

It is noteworthy that Annamalai had reportedly been dissatisfied with the BJP for some time. Sources indicate that he was uncomfortable with the seat-sharing arrangement between the BJP and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

Annamalai arrived in New Delhi on Monday and, on Tuesday, met BJP national president Nitin Nabin as well as Union Home Minister Amit Shah. During his meeting with the party president, he reportedly submitted a five-page resignation letter.

He remained in Delhi on Wednesday awaiting further discussions, but, according to sources, did not receive any positive indication from the party leadership.
