New Delhi, June 4 (H.S.): India’s domestic equity markets showed signs of recovery from early losses during Thursday’s trading session. The benchmark indices opened on a weak note and extended their decline shortly after the opening bell due to sustained selling pressure. However, buying interest emerged soon thereafter, helping both the Sensex and the Nifty recover steadily. By 10:00 a.m., both indices were trading with marginal gains of 0.01 percent.

Among the market heavyweights, shares of Adani Enterprises, Eternal, Titan Company, Tech Mahindra, and Adani Ports were trading higher by 1.53 percent to 0.84 percent by 10:00 a.m. On the other hand, Trent Limited, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV), Eicher Motors, Hindalco Industries, and Infosys were trading lower, declining between 2.38 percent and 1.12 percent.

A total of 2,688 stocks were actively traded in the market during the period under review. Of these, 1,696 stocks were trading in the green with gains, while 992 stocks remained in the red with losses. Among the 30 constituent stocks of the BSE Sensex, 16 were trading higher on buying support, whereas 14 were under selling pressure and trading lower. Similarly, of the 50 constituent stocks of the NSE Nifty, 23 were in positive territory and 27 were trading in the red.

The BSE Sensex opened 410.34 points lower at 73,935.83. Continued selling pressure in early trade dragged the index down to an intraday low of 73,807.30. Subsequently, fresh buying emerged, helping the benchmark recover. Amid ongoing buying and selling activity, the Sensex was trading at 74,354.34 at 10:00 a.m., up a marginal 8.17 points from its previous close.

Likewise, the NSE Nifty began the session with a decline of 123.15 points at 23,282.45. Selling pressure immediately after the opening pushed the index down to 23,247.30. However, renewed buying support enabled the index to recover from its lows. Amid continued market activity, the Nifty was trading at 23,408.35 at 10:00 a.m., registering a symbolic gain of 2.75 points.

In the previous trading session on Wednesday, the Sensex had closed 303.67 points, or 0.41 percent, lower at 74,346.17. The Nifty had ended the day down by 77.95 points, or 0.33 percent, at 23,405.60.
