Focus on Farmers, Industry and Fight Against Drugs
Promises MSP, Agro-Based Industries and Semiconductor Manufacturing
to Give Punjab a New Direction
Chandigarh, 03 June (H.S.): Newly appointed Punjab Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP) president Kewal Singh Dhillon formally assumed charge on Wednesday,
outlining an agenda centered on farmers’ welfare, industrial development and a
strong campaign against drug abuse in the state.
In his maiden address after taking over, Dhillon said he had overcome
challenges in the past and was confident of tackling future hurdles as well. He
stated that the party had already achieved a major milestone and would now
focus on further strengthening its organizational base across Punjab.
Dhillon thanked his predecessors, Sunil Jakhar and Ashwani Sharma, for
laying a strong foundation for the BJP in the state. He said the party now has
a solid platform on which to build and expand its presence.
Describing farmers as the backbone of Punjab, Dhillon said strengthening the
agricultural sector would remain one of his top priorities. He asserted that
efforts would be made to ensure Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all crops, on
the lines of Haryana, while also promoting crop diversification through
incentives and support schemes.
Speaking about industrial growth, Dhillon emphasized the need to encourage
agro-based industries in Punjab. He recalled his role in bringing Pepsi and
potato chip manufacturing units to the region and said more such industries
would be established in the future to provide better value for farmers’ produce
and create employment opportunities.
Outlining his vision for Punjab’s industrial future, Dhillon said the state
should attract high-tech industries, including semiconductor manufacturing. He
expressed his ambition to transform Punjab into the “Taiwan of India” by
developing a strong technology and manufacturing ecosystem.
On the issue of drug abuse, Dhillon adopted a firm stance, saying that drugs
had devastated countless families and claimed the lives of many young people in
Punjab. He assured that the BJP would wage a decisive battle against the menace
while simultaneously creating new opportunities for development and employment.
BJP workers and local leaders welcomed Dhillon’s appointment, describing it
as a strategic move to strengthen the party’s organizational presence in
Punjab. Party leaders expressed confidence that under his leadership, the BJP
would further consolidate its position in the state and prepare effectively for
upcoming electoral challenges.
