Kolkata, 03 June (H.S.) : The investigation into the mysterious deaths of a young couple in Kolkata's Golf Green area has revealed that the apartment where the incident occurred was allegedly being used for frequent house parties involving drugs, alcohol and young attendees, police sources said.
According to senior Kolkata Police officials, the flat, rented by Mohammad Dilshad, had become a regular venue for gatherings where narcotic substances and alcohol were allegedly consumed. Investigators are also examining allegations that sexually explicit videos and reels were filmed at the premises.
The revelations emerged during the initial stages of the probe into the deaths of Dilshad and his girlfriend, Mehuli Sanyal, whose bodies were recovered from the Golf Green apartment on Sunday. Preliminary post-mortem findings indicated that both deaths were caused by a drug overdose.
Police said the autopsy report suggested that Mehuli died first, followed by Dilshad a short time later. Doctors reportedly found that an injury on Mehuli's head was consistent with a fall and was not the primary cause of death. Investigators believe excessive intoxication led to the deaths.
Following a complaint filed by Mehuli's mother, who alleged that her daughter had been murdered, police arrested three individuals in connection with the case. Those arrested include Mushtaq Ali Mollah, also known as Rohit, college student Anjali Bangiro from Jharkhand, and Chandan Paswan.
According to investigators, Mushtaq, Anjali and Chandan attended a house party at the flat on Saturday night, which was also attended by Dilshad and Mehuli. Police said Chandan left the apartment on Saturday afternoon, and investigators are now piecing together the sequence of events leading up to the deaths.
A forensic team visited the flat on Monday and collected samples to determine the nature of the substances consumed during the gathering. Officials said forensic analysis will play a key role in establishing the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
During the investigation, police learned that Mehuli had left her family home in 2023 and had since been living with different partners. Investigators said she was known to attend house and rave-style parties in south Kolkata, where she allegedly came into contact with several individuals connected to the case.
Police sources further alleged that the apartment functioned as a venue where young men and women stayed for one or two days at a time, consuming alcohol and drugs. Participants were allegedly required to pay a substantial amount to gain access to these gatherings.
Investigators are now examining financial transactions, digital evidence and forensic findings to determine whether any criminal offences beyond drug-related activities were committed. The probe remains ongoing.
