Mumbai, 28
June (H.S.): A man arrested for distributing deadly capsules during a Muharram
procession in Mumbai stated that he planned to murder thousands of participants
and that his acts were designed to cause mass deaths during the holy
procession. After being apprehended, he
allegedly informed police that he intended to murder at least 15,000 people.
The purported confession comes after Mumbai Police disrupted what police
characterized as a huge attempt to disrupt the Muharram procession by
distributing capsules containing zinc phosphide, a very poisonous rodenticide. During
the Muharram march, police officers from Byculla Police Station observed a
suspicious guy handing capsules to people. The capsules were confiscated, and
additional investigation resulted in the arrest of the culprit.
