Delhi/Victoria, June 28 (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India envisions the Indian Ocean as an Ocean of Opportunity, where maritime security, sustainable development and economic prosperity are ensured through mutual trust and partnership.
Addressing a joint press statement with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie after delegation-level talks in Victoria, the Prime Minister said India and Seychelles share a common vision for a secure, sustainable and prosperous Indian Ocean.
Our vision is to make the Indian Ocean an Ocean of Opportunity, Modi said, adding that the security, sustainability and prosperity of the Indian Ocean are a shared responsibility of both countries under India's MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) vision.
Describing his visit as historic, Modi noted that Seychelles is celebrating 50 years of Independence while both countries are also marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. He said the bilateral partnership had evolved from friendship to trust, cooperation and public welfare over the past five decades.
The Prime Minister said India and Seychelles would continue to work together to strengthen maritime security, improve connectivity and explore new opportunities in trade, industry and the blue economy. He also reaffirmed India's commitment to sharing its experience in Digital Public Infrastructure with Seychelles.
President Herminie described Prime Minister Modi as a leader who has made significant contributions to sustainability, the blue economy and ocean governance. Referring to the special presidential distinction, Guardian of the Blue Horizon, conferred on Modi earlier in the day, he said the honour represents Seychelles' highest recognition for international leaders who have strengthened cooperation with the island nation.
