
Chennai, 26 June (H.S.):A month after assuming office, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has convened a two-day conference of the State's top civil, police and forest officials to review governance, law and order, and the implementation of key government programmes.
The conference will be held on June 29 and 30 at the Namakkal Kavignar Maligai in the Secretariat. It will bring together the Director General of Police, all government department secretaries, District Collectors, Superintendents of Police, Deputy Inspectors General, Inspectors General of Police, and senior Indian Forest Service (IFS) officers.
The Chief Minister has directed that the conference be conducted in three sessions, each focusing on different aspects of administration and governance.
The first session, attended by District Collectors and senior police officers, will focus on law and order. Discussions will cover police accountability and transparency, intelligence gathering, execution of pending arrest warrants, monitoring of habitual offenders, history-sheeters and those released on bail, besides measures to prevent caste-related conflicts.
Officials will also review women's safety, the functioning of the Lioness Task Force, the status of investigations under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and steps to curb cybercrimes targeting women and children.
Another major agenda item will be the government's 'Drug-Free Tamil Nadu' campaign. The session will assess anti-narcotics enforcement, awareness programmes in educational institutions, action against illicit liquor, and measures to curb the sale of banned tobacco products.
The second session will be attended exclusively by District Collectors. It will examine the implementation of government welfare schemes, assess whether benefits are reaching intended beneficiaries, and identify administrative bottlenecks affecting service delivery.
The third session will bring together District Collectors and senior IFS officers for discussions on forest administration, conservation and inter-departmental coordination.
The conference will conclude with an address by Chief Minister Vijay, who is also expected to felicitate outstanding police, forest and district administration officials for their exemplary service.
