Washington/New Delhi, June 22 (HS): US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will visit India this week to hold discussions with Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and senior Indian officials on the proposed interim trade agreement and the broader India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).

According to a statement issued by the Office of the United States Trade Representative on Sunday, Greer's visit is aimed at advancing negotiations on the trade framework agreed upon by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump during their meeting in February.

During the visit, Greer is scheduled to meet Goyal and other senior officials in New Delhi to review progress in the ongoing negotiations and discuss the next steps towards finalising the interim trade arrangement.

The visit comes weeks after negotiator-level discussions were held in New Delhi from June 2 to 4 as both countries work towards concluding the first phase of the proposed trade agreement.

India and the United States have been engaged in discussions to expand bilateral trade and strengthen economic cooperation through a comprehensive trade framework covering market access, investment and supply-chain partnerships.

Following his India visit, Greer is scheduled to travel to Uzbekistan for meetings with senior government leaders to discuss bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
