
Detailed
discussion held on Punjab’s agricultural system, farmers’ issues and
development of the farming sector
Ludhiana, 22 June (H.S.): BJP national president Nitin
Nabin met noted agricultural economist and Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. Sardara
Singh Johl at his residence in Ludhiana on Monday, the last day of his Punjab
visit. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on Punjab’s
agricultural system, issues related to farmers, crop diversification and the
overall development of the agriculture sector.
Nitin Nabin, who was on a three-day visit to
Punjab, discussed several important issues related to agriculture with Dr.
Johl. He said Dr. Sardara Singh Johl is one of the country’s leading
agricultural economists. As the Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural
University and Chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices,
Dr. Johl played an important role in shaping the country’s agricultural
policies.
Nabin said Dr. Johl has also made a
significant contribution in the field of crop diversification and agricultural
reforms. During the meeting, the two discussed the challenges being faced by
farmers in Punjab, increasing pressure on traditional farming, the need for
crop diversification and ways to strengthen the agriculture sector.

Nabin said agriculture plays a crucial role in Punjab’s economy and there is a
need for a strong policy and visionary approach to resolve farmers’ issues.
Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon and state general secretary Anil Sarin
were also present during the meeting.
