Guwahati, 21 June (HS): A traffic police constable, identified as Rekibul Ali, has been placed under immediate suspension for allegedly demanding and collecting money illegally from a driver in Guwahati. The action was confirmed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Bora.

According to reports, the police personnel allegedly demanded ₹7,000 from a youth named Rajesh Deka. The matter came to light when members of the public reportedly caught Rekibul Ali while accepting ₹2,500 from the youth.

Reacting to the incident in a press conference, DCP (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Bora said that strict action has been taken and the accused constable has been suspended with immediate effect pending further inquiry.

Bora also clarified that the Guwahati Traffic Police never collect fines in cash and urged citizens not to hand over money directly to any police personnel. He appealed to the public to report any such incidents to the authorities for prompt action.----------
