Shillong, 21 June (HS): Road connectivity along the Shillong–Dawki Highway in Meghalaya has been severely affected after a major landslide struck a section of the route in East Khasi Hills district, forcing authorities to suspend all movement beyond Laitlyngkot village.
According to the district administration, the landslide occurred at Chainage 25+200 on the Shillong–Dawki Road, causing a complete blockage and cutting off access to areas beyond the affected stretch.
The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills said that the damaged section has been closed to both public and vehicular traffic with immediate effect. The decision was taken to ensure public safety and facilitate restoration work.
The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) informed authorities that repair and road restoration operations are underway, but the extent of the damage is likely to delay reopening for several days.
Travellers and commuters have been advised to avoid the Shillong–Dawki route beyond Laitlyngkot village and follow official updates issued by the administration. The restrictions will remain in force until further notice.----------
