Kottayam, 20 June (H.S.):Former Kerala minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar has been dropped from the Nair Service Society (NSS) Board of Directors following the completion of his term, with NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair asserting that the decision was part of a routine process to provide opportunities to new members.

Addressing reporters on Saturday, Sukumaran Nair dismissed allegations that the NSS lacked democratic functioning and said anyone with grievances was free to seek legal remedies. He also questioned Ganesh Kumar’s claim that he continued to enjoy the support of a majority of board members.

“Ganesh Kumar says he has the support of 12 members. But those individuals were not members of the original committee. Members of the previous committee had resigned, leading to the loss of quorum. Those resignations made it necessary to create a new administrative arrangement to ensure the smooth functioning of the union,” he said.

The NSS chief further remarked that no one could undermine the authority of the General Secretary within the organisation. “Nobody can sideline the General Secretary. Anyone attempting to do so will not have an address within the organisation,” he said.

Reacting to the development, Ganesh Kumar said he had never sought a renewal of his membership on the board and had no desire to remain in office indefinitely. He maintained that he continued to support Sukumaran Nair and the NSS leadership but alleged that developments in Pathanapuram were not democratic.

“I was on the board for only one term. This time I am not there. Positions are not important to me. I did not join the NSS for posts,” he said.

Ganesh Kumar claimed that he still enjoyed the support of 12 members in the 18-member committee and insisted that he had not lost his majority. He said he possessed documents to substantiate the claim but clarified that he would not initiate legal proceedings against the NSS.

“I have conveyed my concerns to the General Secretary. He may have felt that someone else should be given an opportunity this time. There is nothing wrong with that. I will continue to stand with the NSS,” Ganesh Kumar added.
