Delhi, 20 June (H.S.): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will participate in a special yoga programme at the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary in South Delhi on the morning of June 21 (Sunday) to mark the International Day of Yoga. The event will be held near the picturesque Blue Lake, surrounded by lush greenery, where the Chief Minister will perform yoga and encourage citizens to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The programme will also be attended by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, senior government officials, environmental experts, and a large number of local residents. It aims to collectively promote the message of yoga, environmental conservation, and a sustainable green lifestyle.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that yoga is India's ancient cultural heritage, which has shown the world the path to health, balance, and positive living. She said yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a science that harmonises the body, mind, and soul. In today's fast-paced lifestyle, she added, yoga provides mental peace, energy, and self-confidence.
Gupta said that owing to the visionary efforts and global leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the United Nations General Assembly recognised June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. Today, millions of people across hundreds of countries practise yoga on this day, paying tribute to India's rich tradition. She said it is a matter of pride for every Indian that the country's cultural heritage has received global recognition.
The Chief Minister further said that the Delhi Government is committed to building a healthier citizenry, a cleaner environment, and a greener Delhi. In line with this vision, this year's International Day of Yoga is being organised at the ecologically significant Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary to spread the message of nature conservation and environmental protection.
Following the yoga session, the Chief Minister will inspect the Viksit Bharat Nursery developed within the wildlife sanctuary. She will review the cultivation of various native tree species, plants, and biodiversity conservation initiatives being undertaken there. She will also assess the quality of saplings, conservation measures, and ongoing efforts to expand Delhi's green cover.
Thereafter, the Chief Minister will inspect the plantation drive underway in the Asola region and various parts of the Southern Ridge, where she will review the progress of initiatives aimed at making Delhi greener and more environmentally sustainable.
