Lucknow, 18 June (HS): From 2000 until 2009, KS Sudarshan
served as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's fifth Sarsanghchalak. A passionate
supporter of Swadeshi (self-reliance), he trained numerous politicians,
including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and was active in
India's cultural and nationalist movements. CM Yogi Adityanath has a long
ideological history with the RSS and previous heads such as Sudarshan.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regularly
invokes the spirit of K.S. Sudarshan, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)'s
fifth Sarsanghchalak (Chief). The two individuals are philosophically linked
since they both emphasize a hardline Hindutva ideology, strong national
defense, and the need for force (represented by the 'Sudarshan Chakra') to
build and maintain Dharma.
During his time, Sudarshan Ji witnessed and supervised the
growth of numerous younger notable people and ascetics (including Yogi
Adityanath) affiliated with the Sangh's larger cultural and political goals in
Uttar Pradesh. Sudarshan succeeded Rajendra Singh (Rajju Bhaiya) as leader in
2000 and remain at the helm until 2009, when he resigned due to illness. He was
known for his strong intellectual and physical training (having served as both
Akhil Bharatiya Sharirik and Bouddhik Pramukh), and he advocated for economic
independence and the preservation of India's cultural heritage. He passed away
in Raipur in 2012, leaving an indelible mark on lakhs of swayamsevaks.
UP CM remarked in a post on X, “On the birth anniversary of
the fifth Sarsanghchalak @RSSorg, KS Sudarshan ji, humble tribute. Your ascetic
life dedicated to nationalism, cultural consciousness, and social harmony is an
inspiring symbol of Indian thought and organizational strength. Your profound
thoughts, lofty ideals, and dedication to nation-building will forever continue
to guide us.”
