


Accused Were Being Brought from Jammu on Transit Remand
Chandigarh, 18 June (H.S.): In the Janaki Das murder case, two of the three arrested shooters were injured
in police firing after allegedly attempting to escape from custody while being
transported from Jammu to Chandigarh.
Chandigarh Police had taken the three accused on transit
remand from Jammu and were bringing them to Chandigarh for further
investigation. During the journey, the accused allegedly tried to flee police
custody.
Police officials said that they initially attempted to
stop the accused, but when they failed to comply, the police opened fire in
self-defense and to prevent their escape. As a result, two accused, identified
as Aryan and Sunny Mehra, sustained bullet
injuries in their legs.
Both injured accused were immediately shifted to a
nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have
reportedly stated that their condition is stable and they are out of danger.
The third accused was successfully overpowered by the
police and remains in custody.
The accused were arrested in connection with the broad
daylight murder of Janaki Das, a cashier at Shri Kumar
Medical Hall in Chandigarh's Sector 11. The shocking incident had created
panic in the city after unidentified assailants entered the area and shot
Janaki Das dead.
Following the murder, Chandigarh Police launched an
extensive investigation and conducted raids across multiple states. During the
probe, investigators discovered a Jammu and Kashmir link to the crime. Special
police teams subsequently carried out operations in the region and arrested
Aryan, Sunny Mehra, and another accused.
The police are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind
the murder and to identify any other individuals involved in the conspiracy.
