Lucknow, 17 June (HS): The Uttar Pradesh government's Basic

Education Department has changed the duration of summer vacations for schools

operated and recognized under the control of the Basic Education Council.

Additional Chief Secretary, Basic Education and Secondary Education Department,

Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma, issued an order in this regard.

According to the order, summer vacation will now run from

May 20th to June 24th each year. Regular classes will resume in schools from

June 25th. This arrangement will be effective from the year 2026.

Previously, this vacation was from May 20th to June 15th. In

recent years, heat waves have required extensions at the district level. In

light of this, the government has taken this decision to ensure uniformity at

the state level. To ensure a smooth resumption of classes after summer

vacation, all teachers, Shiksha Mitra (teachers), instructors, and non-teaching

staff will be required to be present in school on June 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.

During these three days, tasks such as creating lesson plans, preparing for

mid-day meals, distributing textbooks, holding school management committee

meetings, preparing for the Bal Vatika (children's garden), cleaning the

campus, kitchen, and restrooms, providing play materials, maintaining the smart

class/ICT lab, and arranging for electricity and drinking water will be

completed. On International Yoga Day, June 21st each year, schools will ensure

group yoga practice by teachers and students. Teaching and learning must be

conducted for at least 220 days a year, as defined by the RTE Act. District

magistrates have been instructed to consider this legal provision before

declaring local holidays.
