Prayagraj, 17 June (HS): Physicians in the Gastroenterology
Department of Swarup Rani Nehru Hospital (SRN) have successfully treated a
patient with a complex bile duct disease. This challenging procedure was
completed using state-of-the-art Spy Cholangioscopy technology. The patient had
been suffering from jaundice and bile duct obstruction for a long time.
Investigations revealed a complex condition called isolated left hepatic duct
stricture. This condition narrows a portion of the bile duct, making it
difficult to treat with standard endoscopic techniques.
The team from the Department of Gastroenterology performed
selective cannulation of the affected area, directly visualizing the bile duct
through spy cholangioscopy, and successfully placed a stent in the left hepatic
duct. Furthermore, biopsy and cytology samples were taken at the same time to
determine the exact nature of the disease, which would help determine further
treatment.
This complex procedure was conducted under the supervision
of Dr. S.P. Mishra, Head and Professor of Gastroenterology. Dr. Sandeep
Prajapati, Dr. Vipin Pandey, and Dr. Sachin Patidar also played important
roles.
Dr. S.P. Mishra explained that taking biopsies from the
correct location and performing treatment for many bile duct diseases was
previously challenging. Such patients often had to be referred to larger
centers like Delhi, Mumbai, or Lucknow. Now, with the availability of modern
facilities like spy cholangioscopy in Prayagraj, patients are receiving better
and timely treatment in their own city. He said that the medical college is
constantly striving to provide high-quality medical facilities to patients from
Purvanchal and surrounding districts by adopting modern technologies. This
achievement will also relieve patients from the region from traveling to
metropolitan cities.
