New Delhi, 17 June (H.S.):India's defence production registered significant growth, reaching a record all-time high of Rs 1.78 lakh crore during the financial year 2025–26.

According to the Ministry of Defence, this historic achievement represents a 15.6 per cent increase over the defence production of Rs 1.54 lakh crore recorded in the previous financial year, 2024–25. The ministry further stated that defence production has surged by 110 per cent compared to the financial year 2020–21, when the total output stood at Rs 84,643 crore.

The ministry said Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and other public sector enterprises accounted for nearly 76 per cent of the total defence production, while the private sector contributed 24 per cent, up from 22 per cent in the financial year 2024–25. The private sector's contribution reached an all-time high of approximately Rs 42,000 crore in FY 2025–26, reflecting its expanding role in the country's defence ecosystem.

The ministry noted that the steady growth in defence manufacturing over the past few years has played a crucial role in enabling India to achieve record defence exports worth Rs 38,424 crore during the financial year 2025–26.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the Department of Defence Production and both the public and private sectors for their collective efforts in achieving this milestone. He said the accomplishment is a clear reflection of India's expanding defence industrial base.

The Defence Minister further stated that with sustained policy support, the introduction of several new initiatives, increasing private sector participation, and expanding export capabilities, India's defence production sector is well-positioned to witness even faster growth in the years ahead.
