Bhubaneswar, 17 June (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory cautioning fishermen against venturing into the sea along and off the Odisha coast due to the likelihood of squally weather and rough sea conditions over the next four days.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, squally weather accompanied by wind speeds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, is expected to prevail from June 18 to June 21, 2026. During this period, sea conditions are likely to remain rough to very rough, posing significant risks to fishing and other marine activities.
In view of the adverse weather conditions, the IMD has strongly advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast. The advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure to prevent any loss of life and minimize potential damage to fishing boats and equipment.
Authorities have urged fishermen and boat operators to strictly follow the warning and remain ashore until conditions improve. Those currently at sea have been advised to return to the coast at the earliest and avoid taking any unnecessary risks.
