Darrang (Assam), 17 June (HS): A physically challenged child was allegedly left behind at the premises of a court in Mangaldai after both parents, who are undergoing divorce proceedings, reportedly refused to take responsibility for the child's care.

According to reports, the child's father, Saiful Islam of Kharupetia, and mother, Tasrin Khatun, appeared before the court in connection with their marital dispute. During the proceedings, the issue of the child's custody emerged, with neither parent willing to keep the child.

Sources said the child has certain physical disabilities and both parents reportedly expressed unwillingness to assume long-term responsibility for raising the minor. Following the court appearance, the parents allegedly left the child within the court premises and departed separately.

The incident has drawn attention to the challenges faced by vulnerable children caught in family disputes, particularly when parental responsibility becomes a matter of contention. Authorities are expected to examine the matter and take appropriate steps for the child's welfare.-----------
