FIFA World Cup 2026: Iran, New Zealand play out 2-2 draw


Los Angeles, 16 June (HS): Iran and New Zealand shared points after a 2-2 draw in their opening Group G match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Tuesday.

New Zealand took an early lead in the seventh minute through A. Just.

Iran fought back and restored parity in the 32nd minute when R. Rezaeian found the net to make it 1-1 before halftime.

New Zealand regained the advantage in the 54th minute as A. Just scored his second goal of the match to put his side ahead 2-1.

Iran responded once again, with M. Mohebi scoring in the 64th minute to level the score at 2-2.

Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but neither side could break the deadlock as the match ended in a draw.

The result leaves Group G evenly poised after the opening round of matches.
