New Delhi, 14 June (H.S.): Union Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and several other senior leaders on Sunday expressed gratitude to blood donors on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day and called for greater public awareness about voluntary blood donation.

In a message posted on social media platform X, Kiren Rijiju said that a single unit of blood can make the difference between life and death for a person in need. He urged people to inspire others to donate blood and help save lives.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge appealed to citizens to donate blood and save lives. Extending his greetings on World Blood Donor Day, he paid tribute to the countless voluntary blood donors whose selfless contributions provide hope, recovery and a second chance at life to patients in need. He also thanked them for their invaluable service to society.

Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat conveyed his greetings on the occasion and described blood donation as a noble act of service. He said blood donors are invaluable contributors to humanity and society, and urged citizens to pledge their support by donating blood to help protect and save human lives.

Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh called upon people to take a collective pledge to donate blood. He said that even a small effort can give someone a new lease of life and reiterated the message, “Donate Blood, Save Lives.”

Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal encouraged people to come together and embrace blood donation as a shared social responsibility. He emphasized the importance of collective participation in ensuring an adequate and safe blood supply for those in need.

Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi also highlighted the spirit of service associated with blood donation. He urged citizens to continue promoting voluntary blood donation and encourage more people to come forward, saying that such efforts contribute to building a healthier, more compassionate and caring society.

World Blood Donor Day is observed annually on June 14 to raise awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products and to recognize the life-saving contribution of voluntary blood donors around the world. The day also serves as a reminder of the critical role regular blood donation plays in strengthening healthcare systems and saving lives.
