Hyderabad, 14 June (H.S.): The Telangana Police has been selected for the Institutional Performance Award by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for its performance in passport application screening and police verification during 2025-26, officials said.
The award will be presented to Director General of Police C.V. Anand by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during the Passport Seva Divas and Passport Officers' Conference scheduled to be held in New Delhi on June 18 and 19.
According to officials, the recognition follows measures undertaken by the Telangana Police to reduce the time taken for passport verification through digitisation and technology-based processes.
Officials said police verification, which earlier took considerably longer, is now completed in an average of three days in urban areas and around five days across the state.
During 2025-26, about 7.87 lakh passport applications were received from Telangana, of which police verification was completed in approximately 7.73 lakh cases, officials said.
DGP C.V. Anand said the award reflected the efforts of Telangana Police personnel in improving public service delivery and strengthening the passport verification process.
