Mankachar (Assam), 14 June (HS): Nine Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, were pushed back through the India-Bangladesh border in Assam's South Salmara-Mankachar district during an operation conducted by the Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday morning.
Sources said six individuals were taken to the Jhalarchar border point, while the remaining three were moved through the Shahapara border point as part of the pushback exercise.
Following the operation, officials of the BSF and Bangladesh's Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held a flag meeting to address the issue. However, the Bangladeshi authorities have so far not accepted the individuals.
As a result, all nine persons remain stranded in the 'No Man's Land' area along the international border, awaiting a resolution.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened across the border region. Personnel of both the BSF and BGB are maintaining strict vigilance and carrying out regular patrols on their respective sides to prevent any untoward situation.
Authorities from both countries are continuing discussions as efforts remain underway to resolve the matter.----------
