IG   Reviews Security and Crowd Management

Bhubaneswar, 01 June (H.S.): In view of the massive influx of devotees expected during the upcoming Snana Purnima festival, Inspector General (IG) of Police, Central Range, Dr. Satyajit Nayak, IPS, conducted a comprehensive high-level review of security, traffic, and crowd management arrangements in Puri on Monday.

Accompanied by Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) Prateek Singh, IPS, and other senior administrative and police officials, Dr. Nayak first visited the Shree Jagannath Temple to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath before undertaking an inspection of key locations associated with the festival arrangements.

Snana Purnima is scheduled to be observed on June 29, 2026, and is expected to attract lakhs of devotees from across the country. The review focused on ensuring a well-coordinated, safe, and efficient security framework while prioritizing the convenience and safety of pilgrims.

As part of the preparations, authorities plan to streamline entry and exit routes through various temple gates to facilitate smooth movement of devotees during the Pahandi procession and the ceremonial bathing rituals at the Snana Mandap. Adequate deployment of police personnel, creation of dedicated traffic corridors along the Grand Road (Bada Danda), and ensuring uninterrupted movement of emergency vehicles are among the key measures being implemented.

The security plan also includes enhanced 24x7 CCTV surveillance around the temple’s outer precincts and major intersections to continuously monitor crowd density and enable prompt response to any situation.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Nayak said that providing a safe, orderly, and spiritually fulfilling experience to the millions of devotees visiting Puri remains the highest priority of the Odisha Police. He emphasized that the police are working in close coordination with the Shree Jagannath Temple administration to maintain the highest standards of public safety and crowd management.

Dr. Nayak also appealed to devotees and members of the public to cooperate fully with police personnel and follow official guidelines to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of all rituals and festival-related activities during Snana Purnima 2026.
