
Cachar (Assam), 07 May (HS): Cachar Police arrested two persons, including a woman, during a search operation conducted in Silchar town based on specific intelligence inputs. Arms, ammunition and several other items were recovered from their possession.
According to the Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) on Thursday, the operation was carried out on Wednesday evening at the residence of Akram Ali in the FCI Road area of Ramnagar under Silchar town in connection with Lakhipur Police Station Case No. 64/2026 registered under Section 308(4) of the BNS and Section 25(1)(A) of the Arms Act.
During the search, police apprehended Leishram Tiken Meitei and Monalisa Chanu. A 9 mm Italian pistol, five rounds of live ammunition, one Chinese grenade, Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter identity card, ATM cards, a vehicle number plate, three mobile handsets and other documents were seized from them.
Police said further legal procedures are underway. Investigators are also questioning the duo to ascertain whether they are linked to any militant outfit or involved in illegal arms trafficking activities.------------
