Centre Signs Agreement with NTF Energy for Commercial Production of Indigenous Type-IV CNG Cylinders

New Delhi, 07 May (H.S.): To modernize CNG cylinders in the country, the Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, has entered into an agreement with NTF Energy Solutions Private Limited. Under this agreement, the company will establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for commercial production of Type-IV CNG cylinders developed using indigenous technology.

The Ministry of Science & Technology stated that this project aligns with the government's clean energy mobility vision and Atmanirbhar Bharat objectives. It aims to reduce carbon emissions, strengthen domestic manufacturing, and promote clean transportation through advanced gas storage systems.

Type-IV composite cylinders are up to 75% lighter than traditional steel cylinders, enhancing vehicle efficiency and reducing emissions. They feature corrosion-resistant polymer liners, advanced CFRP layup, and mechanical locking systems. With a burst pressure exceeding 600 bar—far above regulatory standards—these cylinders ensure enhanced safety.

TDB Secretary Rajesh Kumar Pathak stated that commercial production of advanced indigenous cylinders will strengthen India's clean mobility infrastructure and indigenous manufacturing ecosystem. NTF Energy Solutions Managing Director Naveen Jain and Director Naman Jain expressed that TDB's support will accelerate technology commercialization, enabling the company to contribute to India's cleaner, more efficient transportation goals.

The project will utilize locally available raw materials and advanced manufacturing processes, ensuring cost-competitiveness and developing a future-ready supply chain for high-pressure composite cylinders in the country.
