New Delhi, 07 May (H.S.):

Actress Nora Fatehi appeared at the National Commission for Women headquarters on Thursday for the hearing related to the Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke song controversy. Meeting Commission Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, Nora Fatehi submitted a written unconditional apology.

During the hearing, Nora Fatehi told the Commission she lacked complete understanding of Kannada and was unaware of the objectionable message in the song's Hindi dubbed version. She expressed regret over the song's impact and assured greater caution and responsibility in future projects.

As a gesture of social responsibility and atonement, Nora Fatehi announced she will bear education expenses for 100 orphaned girls and requested the Commission to sympathetically consider her apology.

The Commission accepted her apology while reiterating that entertainment content must respect women's dignity. Cultural and social sensitivities must be observed, avoiding obscenity or derogatory portrayal of women in any form.

Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar expressed serious concern over obscenity in such content and its negative societal impact. She stated artists and public figures cannot evade social responsibility citing contracts or lack of knowledge. Creative professionals and celebrities significantly influence society, particularly youth, requiring awareness of messages in promoted content.
