New Delhi, 07 May (H.S.):

The Central Government will organize a high-level industry consultation on May 8 at the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) in Kanpur for establishing the National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) in aeronautics and allied sectors. This meeting marks a crucial step toward developing a globally competitive aerospace skills ecosystem in India.

According to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the Directorate General of Training (DGT) under the ministry is organizing the consultation. Over 30 senior industry leaders, CEOs, and policy experts will participate. The NCoE is being established under the Pradhan Mantri Skill and Employment Transformation Scheme (PM-SETU), which includes five sector-specific excellence centers across the country in Kanpur, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Ludhiana.

Kanpur's NCoE holds special importance as it is being developed under a bilateral agreement between the Governments of India and France. It will integrate French aeronautics expertise in aircraft design, aerospace manufacturing, MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul), avionics, and related technologies with India's rapidly growing skilling infrastructure.

The meeting, chaired by Ministry Secretary Debashree Mukherjee, will also be attended by DGT Director General Dilip Kumar. Participants will tour NSTI Kanpur's existing infrastructure and workshop facilities, along with live demonstrations of trade setups. Discussions will focus on NCoE framework, Lead Industry Partner (LIP) roles, co-investment models, curriculum co-development, instructor training pathways, and international qualification recognition to ensure trainees' global mobility.
